$ Movies

It's good to be back where there are "dollar movies". G-man and I went to see "The Greatest Game Ever Played" at the dollar theatre tonight. This is a true story about a young man that became a great golfer against all the odds. Sure, it's formulaic, but still the kind of movie you can enjoy AND is good for a teenager to see.

Back in Peavineland

I'm back in Peavine for a few weeks before I move to China. It's a long drive from DC but at least I made the wise choice of taking the "southern route" to avoid a winter storm in the Midwest. As soon as I crossed the border into Peavineland a kind man in a huge pickup truck came up to me to point out that I had a low tire. Then he taught me something I'd never have realized on my own. Instead of paying for the air pump in front of the truck stop/restaurant there's free air at the diesel pumps the truck drivers use. This is the kind of wisdom you can't get from books.

It's Looking a Lot Like... Christmas.

It's snowing in Washington tonight. A steady, quiet snow that muffles the traffic noise. It started this afternoon and before long, the Washington Monument was barely visible out the window. What a beautiful sight.

The movers came today and emptied my apartment of everything except the basics - a tv, a computer, air mattress and folding chair. Everything else is on its way to China. Literally on a slow boat to China.
